ZARoyance Feeding Scheme is a transformative social responsibility initiative dedicated to addressing the critical issues of poverty, malnutrition, education disparities, public health challenges, and economic underdevelopment in South Africa.
By focusing on the well-being of primary school children and youth in underserved Black townships, and providing them nutrient-rich meals that fuel both body and mind, fostering the potential for a brighter, healthier future, ZARoyance is laying the groundwork for positive and sustainable change.
The Feeding Scheme is dedicated to reshaping local community systems to address the root causes of poverty.
Our mission is clear: to provide nutrient-replete feeding solutions that empower children to learn, grow, and thrive. By prioritising nutrition as a cornerstone of education and health, we aim to unlock the full potential of South Africa's future generations.
We need your help.
Despite 30 years of democracy, South Africa remains one of the most unequal societies in the world, where poverty and unemployment are entrenched realities especially for millions of children. This malnutrition severely hampers children’s ability to concentrate, learn, and thrive academically, perpetuating cycles of poverty and limiting future opportunities.
The current feeding systems, while helpful, often fall short of providing the necessary nutrients for optimal growth and learning. The result? A generation at risk of poor academic performance, chronic illness, and diminished prospects for a productive future.
Research published by the University of the Witwatersrand highlights that social grants and
food production initiatives alone are insufficient to combat the escalating food insecurity crisis, particularly in urban areas where cash economies dominate. More innovative interventions are required.
According to Statistics SA, as of 2023, over 18.2 million South Africans live in extreme
poverty, with many school-going children suffering from "hidden hunger"—a lack of essential nutrients needed for proper growth and cognitive development. It revealed that 62.1% of children aged 0-17 were multidimensionally poor. Rural children and those in female-headed or large households are particularly vulnerable. Poverty is exacerbated by inadequate access to nutrition, healthcare, education, and housing, with children in Black African households most affected.
The 2024 Unicef Situation Analysis of Children and Adolescents in South Africa highlights
child poverty in South Africa as a continuous critical issue, with children disproportionately affected by poverty's physical, emotional and social adverse impacts, which threaten their rights, development, and future opportunities.
ZARoyance Feeding Scheme is committed to breaking this cycle by delivering fortified, nutrient-dense meals
ZARoyance Feeding Scheme is committed to breaking this cycle by delivering fortified,
nutrient-dense meals to primary school children. By targeting Grades R to 7, we aim to lay a strong foundation for academic success and overall well-being. Our initiative not only nourishes young bodies but also empowers young minds, ensuring they are physically and mentally prepared to excel in their educational journey and beyond.
Partnerships for Impact
ZARoyance’s holistic approach relies on strategic partnerships with schools, local
governments, other non-profit organisations, and the private sector companies. By pooling resources and expertise, we can scale our initiatives, enhance their quality, and ensure long term sustainability.
